Dutch oven Lasagne

This was a first for me making lasagne at a campsite from scratch. I was browsing blogs and came across “dirty gourmet” and their skillet lasagne. Knowing how my hubbie loves lasagne I though it would be a real treat to make this while camping and try it on our frontier stove! So while my hubbie tended a nice fire in the frontier stove for me….I chopped my onions, peppers and mushrooms, added hot chili flakes, black pepper and  garlic. I browned this in the bottom of the Dutch oven on the frontier stove added the highland ground beef and browned that nicely, then added the crushed tomatoes and some tomato paste. IMG_2386

I let this simmer for a while and enjoyed a glass of wine – more like a plastic glass of wine :-),  then removed my Dutch oven and put the sauce contents into another bowl.

I then started to layer the no boil lasagne strips with the sauce, a layer of fresh spinach leaves, a layer grated  Italian cheese until the sauce was finished and then finished off with a final layer of extra cheese….. hmm nice and fattening to boot 🙂

I then put the lid on the Dutch oven and let it simmer very gently on the frontier stove for about 30 mins just until the noodles were soft.

I took it off and let it sit a while for the sauce to thicken up and viola the best lasagne camping ever!!

So easy to do and so tasty I will defiantly try this again using different variations. thank you dirty gourmet for the wonderful inspiring idea!!
